Our Journey
CIRCA March 1986
Some have already told us "ya'll need to write a book", but short of doing that, I would agree that our journey has been storybook and it is our belief that God has authored this situation. We met 32 years ago on the campus of Tuskegee University. I, a budding business major from Detroit, and Yvette, a fabulously focused freshman engineering student from St. Louis. We dated for about 9 months, to include the summer of 1988, sharing letters back and forth from Detroit to St. Louis during that summer. The math gets fuzzy now as our stories differ on exactly why we called an end to our college love affair. :-) Both of us graduated on Mother's Day 1991 receiving our diplomas from Dr. Bill Cosby. Our separate ways involved Yvette staying at Tuskegee to complete her Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, and me, like most of my peer graduates, moving into the corporate world (with P&G).
renewed Love
Our friendship and renewed love affairhas blossomed ever since with numerous visits between Memphis and Phoenix, tens of "S kype" video conference calls, hundreds of telephone conversations, thousands of emails, and maybe even more text messages. We started "old school", but we have used every available "new school" technique to cultivate this relationship. There is no doubt in my mind that I was "made to love her", and she tells me that I'm a "gift" (from God), not a present. On March 30th, 2010, I asked Yvette to marry me and SHE SAID YES!!, and this particular chapter of second chance courtship is now closed. Now another opens. This new chapter will be ordained by God and filled with my ultimate commitment. Proverbs 18:22
LIFE HAPPENS
Life "HAPPENS" to both of us for about 17 years and on April 4, 2008 after anunusual twist of high (and low) tech networking we are landed in a (practically) all day conversation. One day led to two which led to a furious email (and telephone) dialog which continued until Yvette agreed to make a visit to Memphis on May 22, 2008.
